Desag - Drawn Antique (GNA)
A machine made, smooth surfaced glass in pastel shades which bears a resemblance to sheet antique glass, but which is priced much less.
This glass is produced on machinery which was originally designed for making window glass. This German made glass is drawn vertically from the tank while in a molten state. The 40" wide ribbon is then drawn up through a cooling lehr. Somewhere, somehow, during this mysterious process, lines and reams and striations appear in the surface of the glass. (It is rumored that a man with asbestos gloves and a stick with nails in it does something to it while hanging from a cat-walk. Despite all of our inquiries on the subject, we cannot get through to the Oberglasmeister for enlightenment.)
Suffice it to say that the glass is very easy to cut, and is quite even in thickness.
